Setting up cookies
Many institutions have Pubget set up to run behind a proxy, which means you don't have to worry about cookies. (Don't worry if you don't know what this means, but do tell your librarian.)
If your institution hasn't done this yet, in order to see PDFs that you can access only through your institution, you might need to make sure your browser is set to accept cookies.
Firefox 3: Go to Tools (PC and Linux) or Firefox (Macintosh) > Preferences... > Privacy and under Cookies check the boxes next to Accept cookies from sites and Accept third-party cookies.
Safari 3: Go to Preferences > Security and under Accept cookies, click Always.
Internet Explorer 6 or 7: Go to Tools > Internet Options, click Privacy, and then under Settings, move the slider bar to Accept All Cookies, and click OK.
To learn more about cookies, please visit this Google video. Pubget does not use cookies for advertising. However, your institution uses them for authentication: cookies are how your school knows you're OK to view its stuff.
If you're prompted to allow cookies, it's because your institution requires them for their proxy server. Technically, this means you might need to allow cookies only for your institution's internet domain (e.g., MIT's is mit.edu) instead of allowing all cookies. Some browsers—e.g., Firefox and Internet Explorer—make this easy to do; on other browsers you will have to allow all cookies to make sure the right domain is included.
To maintain privacy, we recommend clearing all cookies periodically and using a privacy tool that will monitor your system for unwanted cookies and adware.
