Expression of interleukin-12-related cytokine transcripts in inflammatory bowel disease: elevated interleukin-23p19 and interleukin-27p28 in Crohn's disease but not in ulcerative colitis.

Inflamm Bowel Dis 11(1):16-23 (2005) PMID 15674109

It has been suggested that Crohn's disease (CD) is associated with an exaggerated T-helper 1 cytokine response manifested by increased production of interleukin (IL)-12. IL-12 is a heterodimeric protein comprising 2 disulfide-linked subunits designated p35 and p40. Recently, IL-12-related cytokines, IL-23 and IL-27, were described. Biologically active IL-23 is a heterodimer whose p40 subunit is identical to IL-12p40 whereas its p19 subunit is distantly related to IL-12p35. IL-27 consists of EBI3, an IL-12p40-related protein, and p28, a newly discovered IL-12p35-related polypeptide.

    Carcinogenesis 32(5):643-9 (2011) PMID 21304053

We focus first upon those studies investigating Th17 cells in patients and then those in mice, all the while keeping in mind that variables such as tumor-initiating agents, a pre-existing inflammatory environment, and the immune competency of the host may have direct effects upon this T cell subset....

We hypothesized that altering the tumor cytokine environment could induce Th17 and reverse tumor-associated immune suppression. Pan02 murine pancreatic tumor cells that secrete TGF-beta were transduced with the gene encoding IL-6. C57BL/6 mice were injected s.c. with wild-type (WT), empty vector (EV...

    Cancer Res 71(4):1263-71 (2011) PMID 21303976

We systematically analyzed the balance between cytotoxic T cells and different subsets of helper T cells in human colorectal cancers and we correlated their impact on disease-free survival. A panel of immune related genes were analyzed in 125 frozen colorectal tumor specimens. Infiltrating cytotoxic...
