The Akron dome midfoot osteotomy as a salvage procedure for the treatment of rigid pes cavus: a retrospective review.

J Pediatr Orthop 28(1):68-80 (2008) PMID 18157049

In the early 1970s, the Akron dome osteotomy was developed as a salvage surgical option to manage rigid cavus deformity of the foot. This study represents an updated review of surgical cases between 1972 and 2001 constituting 89 patients representing 139 feet who were followed at least 2 years after the index operative procedure. Only cases achieving an unsatisfactory result followed less than 2 years were included.

We reviewed the revision rate and functional outcome of all patients who had a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) after an osteotomy or unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) on the New Zealand Joint Registry. We used these data to compare the results with primary TKA scores, including comparison of ag...

The Chiari osteotomy reportedly has a 60% to 91% survival rate at a minimum 20 years followup. The dome pelvic osteotomy (DPO) has the advantage of allowing a larger weightbearing surface, and congruity in the sagittal plane presumably would reduce the joint contact stress and perhaps increase longe...

We describe a complete hominin second metatarsal (StW 89) from the 2.0-2.6 million year old deposits of Member 4, Sterkfontein Cave, South Africa. Like many other fossil foot bones, it displays a mosaic of derived human-like features and primitive ape-like features. StW 89 possesses a domed metatars...
