Morphometric analysis of collagen fibrils in skin of patients with spontaneous cervical artery dissection.

J Neurol Neurosurg Psychiatry 79(9):1007-12 (2008) PMID 18223019

The aetiopathogenesis of spontaneous cervical artery dissection (sCAD) is largely unknown. Electron microscopic (EM) examination of skin biopsies of patients with sCAD revealed very subtle pathological changes of dermal connective tissue in about half of these patients leading to the hypothesis of an underlying connective tissue disorder. However, connective tissue abnormalities did not allow clear discrimination between patients and controls in our hands. Therefore, we sought to establish an objective basis for the assessment of connective tissue abnormalities in patients with sCAD using standardised morphometric assessment of collagen fibrils.

This study aimed to compare complete genome sequences of human papillomavirus (HPV) type 11 from two solitary papillomas (considered minimally aggressive), two moderately (six and nine episodes) and two highly aggressive (30 and 33 episodes) juvenile-onset respiratory papillomatoses....

The magnitude and sign of the volume change upon protein unfolding are strongly dependent on temperature. This temperature dependence reflects differences in the thermal expansivity of the folded and unfolded states. The factors that determine protein molar expansivities and the larg...

We provide evidences that LRRC1 plays a potential oncogenic function in HCC. Consistent with the microarray data, quantitative real-time PCR results showed LRRC1 was aberrantly upregulated in 37/56 (66.1 %, more than twofolds) of HCC specimens compared with adjacent non-cancerous livers.
