A randomized prospective study comparing medical and medical-surgical treatment of nasal polyposis by CT.

Audio, Transactions of the IRE Profession... 129(5):545-9 (2009) PMID 18720067

CT of the sinuses showed long-lasting improvement in the total and CT scores of the osteomeatal complex (OMC) after combined surgical and corticosteroid treatment as compared with medical treatment alone. However, the correlations between the improved CT scores and the patients' symptoms, olfactory thresholds or polyp scores were generally not significant.

All three effect measures were improved from pre-ESS to post-ESS. Olfactory threshold increased from 0.0 pre-ESS to 3.0 (p < 0.001), two weeks after surgery, and the smell diary score decreased from 3.0 to 1.7 during the same period (p < 0.001), i.e. improvement. The smell and taste score increased...

Arch Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg 132(2):179-85 (2006) PMID 16490876

Mometasone furoate NS doses of 200 microg administered once or twice daily produced greater reductions in bilateral polyp grade at the end point than placebo, with differences reaching statistical significance with twice-daily dosing (P = .04). Over 1 month, both mometasone furoate NS regimens produ...
