Polymorphisms of the scavenger receptor class B member 1 are associated with insulin resistance with evidence of gene by sex interaction.

J Clin Endocrinol Metab 94(5):1789-96 (2009) PMID 19276229

Genetic variation in diabetes-associated genes cumulatively explain little of the overall heritability of this trait. We sought to determine whether polymorphisms of the scavenger receptor class B, member I (SCARB1), an estrogen-regulated chromosome 12q24 positional candidate diabetes gene, were associated with type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance in a sex-specific fashion.

Our phenotypic data proposed a better genotypic tropism prediction for HIV-1 CRF01_AE would be using both Geno2pheno (FPR = 10%, Clonal) and WebPSSM (x4r5 subtype B matrix) algorithms in combination. The sensitivity and specificity for this combination was 88.9% and 89.3% respectively. The comparati...

Compounds 5b, 5d, and 5e (40 and 80 μmol/L) caused significant decrease of A549 cell viability, while other 4 compounds had no effect on the cells. Compounds 5b, 5d, and 5e (80 μmol/L) induced G1-phase arrest (increased the G1 population by 22.6%, 24.23%, and 26.53%, respectively), and markedly inc...

We screened and identified a novel polymorphism (c.-274C>G) in the SIRT1 promoter region. In silico prediction reveals that this SNP is in the core of cell cycle-dependent element (CDE)-binding motif. Interestingly, the G allele abolished a CDE-binding site, which suggested its functional significan...
