Sustained release of microbicides by newly engineered vaginal rings.

AIDS 23(8):917-22 (2009) PMID 19381077

An effective vaginal microbicide against sexual HIV transmission remains elusive, with requirements for adherence to appropriate application of effective, nontoxic products being a major deterrent. We explored methods to enable sustained release of combinations of antiretroviral microbicides, utilizing intravaginal rings composed of biosoluble Acacia gum or nonbiodegradable hydrogel of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and sodium methacrylate, materials approved for use by the US Food and Drug Administration.

    J Pharm Pharmacol 65(6):827-38 (2013) PMID 23647676

We found that protein-coated nanoparticles could be obtained in USP phosphate buffer pH 6.8. Particles obtained at pH 6.8 had a z-average of 347.2 nm, a zeta-potential of 21.9 mV and 99.2% remaining activity after manufacture. This formulation was further studied for its application in films...

Microneedles are a relatively simple, minimally invasive and painless approach to deliver drugs across the skin. However, there remain limitations with this approach because of the materials most commonly utilized for such systems. Silk protein, with tunable and biocompatibility prop...

    arXiv:1305.1096 [astro-ph.CO] 6 May 2013

We confirm that MgII 2800 shows a profile that is ~ 20% Narrower as suggested in some previous studies. FWHM measures for Population B Sources (i.e., with FWHM of Hbeta larger than 4000 km/s) are uncertain because They show complex profiles with at least two broad-line components involving a Nearly...
