Outcome after emergency surgery without angiography in patients with intracerebral haemorrhage after aneurysm rupture.

Acta Neurochir (Wien) 151(8):911-5 (2009) PMID 19387536

Patients with large intracerebral haematomas (ICH) from aneurysm rupture often present in a poor clinical condition and have a poor prognosis. Time delay for preoperative angiography might in some cases be unappealing. We evaluated the outcome after immediate haematoma removal and aneurysm occlusion without preoperative angiography.

We present a Danish algorithm for the neurointensive care of patients with severe traumatic brain injury. The primary goal is to avoid cerebral ischaemia and hypoxia and secondarily brain injury. Patient evaluation by a neurosurgeon is mandatory, and decision-making concerning extended cerebral moni...
  2. Nimodipine in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: a randomized study of intravenous or peroral administration.

    J Neurosurg 110(1):58-63 (2009) PMID 18847340

Object The calcium antagonist nimodipine has been shown to reduce the incidence of ischemic complications following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Although most randomized studies have been focused on the effect of the peroral administration of nimodipine, intravenous infusion is an alter...

    Dan Med Bull 57(4):A4139 (2010) PMID 20385080

A total of 133 patients with SAH due to ruptured intracranial aneurysms were admitted to two neurosurgical units in Copenhagen, Denmark, during a one-year period. The median time to admission was 60 min. The median delay from admission to CT scan was 55 min. Long pre-hospital delay (p = 0.03) and hi...
