Synthesis of new heterometallic macromolecules: Their DNA binding, cleavage activity and in vitro model electrochemotherapy study

Spectrochim Acta A Mol Biomol Spectrosc 74(5):8 (2009) PMID 19850511

The homodinuclear C"1"6H"3"0N"8O"5Sn"2Cl"4 (1), heterotetranuclear C"1"6H"3"8N"8O"9Sn"2Cu"2Cl"8 (2) and C"1"6H"3"8N"8O"9Sn"2Mn"2Cl"8 (3) macrocyclic complexes were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic techniques and molar conductance measurements. The interaction studies of 1-3 with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) were carried out by UV-vis titration, fluorescence, cyclic voltammetry and viscosity measurements. These results were further authenticated by carrying out interaction studies of 1-3 with plasmid pBR322 DNA employing gel electrophoresis. To overcome the dose resistance, auto toxicity of the drugs, a model study based on electrochemotherapy (ECT) was carried out and the results were compared in the presence and in the absence of the applied electrical potential.

We have proposed that a nearby carboxylate group of Asp256 enables the reaction by accepting a proton from the primer O3´group, thus activating O3´as the nucleophile in the reaction path. Here, we tested this proposal by altering the side chain of Asp256 to Glu and then exploring the impact of thi...

The discovery of telomeres dates back to the early 20(th) century. In humans, telomeres are heterochromatic structures with tandem DNA repeats of 5'-TTAGGG-3' at chromosomal ends. Telomere length varies greatly among species and ranges from 10 to 15 kilobases in humans. With each cel...

Autophagy is present at a basal level in all plant tissues and is induced during leaf ageing and in response to nitrogen (N) starvation. Nitrogen remobilization from the rosette to the seeds is impaired in autophagy mutants. This report focuses on the role of autophagy in leaf N mana...
