Percutaneous nephrolithotomy: an extreme technical makeover for an old technique.

Arch Ital Urol Androl 82(1):23-5 (2010) PMID 20593712

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) remains the treatment of choice for several forms of stone disease including: large stones, many cystine and struvite calculi, lower pole calyceal calculi, stones associated with anomalous renal anatomy, and stones in morbidly obese patients. Recent advances in the PNL technique appear to improve post-operative outcomes and reduce patient morbidity.

Expert Opin Investig Drugs (2013) PMID 23642225

Aberrant activation of RAF signalling is a frequent finding in human cancers. BRAF is the only RAF family member that is commonly mutated, whilst CRAF and ARAF play important roles in the signal transduction from mutant RAS. BRAF-specific inhibitors have been more effective in the treatment of BRAF-...

However, these effects have often been found to be short-lived. Future research should focus on identifying predictors of response (e.g. clinical, g...

    J Infect Dis (2013) PMID 23661793

Background. Over expression of Programmed death-1 (PD-1) receptor is thought to inhibit effector T cell response in human tuberculosis. However, the precise mechanism of such inhibition remains unclear. The present study aimed at addressing the role of PD-1 in dampening host T cell...
