A genome-wide association study of Cloninger's temperament scales: Implications for the evolutionary genetics of personality

Research highlights ▶ Previous twin, family, and adoption studies show that personality variation is partly genetic. ▶ We find that, individually, no common genetic variants contribute substantially to personality variation. ▶ Therefore, genetic variants influencing personality must be rare and/or of very small effect.
