Persistent hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia of infancy: constitutive activation of the mTOR pathway with associated exocrine-islet transdifferentiation and therapeutic implications.

Int J Clin Exp Pathol 3(7):691-705 (2010) PMID 20830240

Amino-acids stimulate the mammalian target of rapamycin complex(mTORC)1; mTORC1 integrates amino-acid and energy-sensing pathways in beta-cells. Rapamycin inhibits mTORC1. We examined the mTOR pathway and cell cycle data in the exocrine pancreas in diffuse persistent hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia of infancy (PHHI).

Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) is a clonal myeloproliferative disorder characterised by the presence of a fusion oncogene BCR-ABL, which encodes a protein with constitutive tyrosine kinase activity. The implementation of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) marked a major advance in CML...

We show for the first time that inhibition of PKMζ produces a profound depression of basal synaptic transmission in neonatal, but not adult, rat perirhinal cortex. This suggests that synapses in early development are in a constitutive LTP-like state. Furthermore, basal synaptic transmission in imma...

Sun protection is an important part of our lives. UV filters are widely used to absorb solar radiation in sunscreens. However, excess UV filters constitute persistent groups of organic micropollutants present in the environment. An environmentally friendly ionic-liquid-based up-and-d...
