Memory and communication support in dementia: research-based strategies for caregivers.

Audio, Transactions of the IRE Profession... 23(2):256-63 (2011) PMID 20849676

Difficulties with memory and communication are prominent and distressing features of dementia which impact on the person with dementia and contribute to caregiver stress and burden. There is a need to provide caregivers with strategies to support and maximize memory and communication abilities in people with dementia. In this project, a team of clinicians, researchers and educators in neuropsychology, psychogeriatrics, nursing and speech pathology translated research-based knowledge from these fields into a program of practical strategies for everyday use by family and professional caregivers.

Dominant LFSNHL is most commonly caused by mutations in the Wolfram syndrome type 1 gene (WFS1). Mutations in WFS1 also cause a rare recessive syndromic form of hearing loss known as Wolfram syndrome or DIDMOAD (diabetes insipidus, diabetes mellitus, optic atrophy, and deafness). Routine newborn hea...

    J Proteomics 72(4):5 (2009) PMID 19367687

We present the identification of protein molecules that co-purify with PrP(Sc) isolated from naturally scrapie-infected ovine brain tissue. The infectious preparations were analyzed by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and unknown proteins were identified by LC-MS/MS. These proteins may prove to b...
