Rationale and design of a study to evaluate effects of pitavastatin on Japanese patients with chronic heart failure: the pitavastatin heart failure study (PEARL study).

Int J Cardiol 156(2):144-7 (2012) PMID 21075465

HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins) are known to have pleiotropic effects in addition to their lipid-lowering effect. Many studies have suggested cardioprotective effects of statins, however, recent large-scale clinical trials using rosuvastatin, a hydrophilic statin, have failed to show beneficial effects on cardiovascular events in patients with severe heart failure. We have designed the study to evaluate the effects of pitavastatin, a lipophilic statin, on Japanese patients with mild to moderate heart failure.

The in vitro antifungal activity of different statins and the combinations of the two most effective ones (fluvastatin and rosuvastatin) with amphotericin B were investigated in this study on 6 fungal isolates representing 4 clinically important genera, namely Absidia, Rhizomucor, Rh...

We introduce a new method for classifying the thyroid nodules based on the ultrasound (US) elastography features. Unlike approaches to assess the stiffness of a thyroid nodule by visually inspecting the pseudo-color pattern in the strain image, we use a classification algorithm to stratify the nodul...

Increasing the ambient temperature increased uptake of (18)F-FDG in the brain significantly while reducing the uptake in skeletal muscle and brown adipose tissue that was caused by shivering. The reduction of brain (18)F-FDG uptake caused by tail holding and manual injection was significantly amelio...
