Maternal methadone therapy increases QTc interval in newborn infants.

Arch Dis Child Fetal Neonatal Ed 96(2):F141-3 (2011) PMID 21081591

Prolongation of the QT interval is a risk factor for sudden death. Methadone treatment is a well-recognised cause of QT interval lengthening in adults. The effect of maternal methadone treatment on the QT interval of the newborn infant is not known. This is the first prospective study of corrected QT (QTc) interval in infants born to mothers receiving methadone.

30 rabbits were fed with amiodarone (50mg/kg/d,n=10), dronedarone (50mg/kg/d,n=10), or placebo (n=10) for 6 weeks. Subsequently, in isolated hearts, AF was induced by high-rate atrial pacing and acute atrial dilatation. In placebo-treated hearts, d,l-sotalol (50μM) was acutely administered. Ranolaz...

-CRT improves DHF-induced alterations of Na(+) channel function, especially suppression of INa-L, thus abbreviating the APD and reducing the frequency of EADs. Changes in the levels of phosphorylated CaMKII suggest a molecular pathway for regulation of INa by biventricular pacing of the failing hear...

Increased risks of recall, biopsy rates, screen-detected, and interval cancers among HRT users have important implications for population-based breast cancer screening programs. Our findings support the concept that HRT use may increase the growth of preexisting cancers. Lack of effect on DCIS could...
