Vitiligo is the most common depigmentary disorder of the skin and hair, resulting from selective destruction of melanocytes. Melasma, a hyperpigmentary disorder, presents as irregular, brown, macular hypermelanosis. A small subset of vitiligo patients paradoxically also have melasma.
