Isoniazid-induced pellagra.

Cutan Ocul Toxicol 30(4):317-9 (2011) PMID 21517721

Pellagra is characterized by dermatitis, diarrhea, dementia and eventually death occurring as a result of niacin or its precursor tryptophan deficiency. Although pellagra is a well-known complication of isoniazid (INH) therapy, the clinical diagnosis may be missed or delayed that may cause life-threatening consequences. Due to the diversity of pellagra-related signs and symptoms, the diagnosis can be made with an appropriate index of suspicion. We report a 7-year-old boy presenting with INH-induced pellagra that resolved after the administration of the niacin therapy.

Hair dye chemicals other than PPD may be of importance, but the presently tested materials, with the possible exception of PTD, are normally positive only when a PPD-positive reaction is also present, suggesting that their use in patch testing in hair dye allergy is likely to be of limited value....

Similar drug concentrations were obtained in all experimental groups, in in vitro and in vivo studies, regardless of the iontophoretic current applied. A 20-mm penetration depth was found for carboplatin at the agar model. High drug levels were found at the sclera and retina, while lower levels were...
