Repair of base damage and genome maintenance in the nucleo-cytoplasmic large DNA viruses

Virus Research 179:12 (2014) PMID 24184318

• The large DNA genomes of NCLDVs can be exposed to genotoxic agents. • DNA damaged bases can be removed by base excision repair (BER) and related pathways. • NCLDVs encode proteins that may constitute viral DNA BER repair pathways. • Viral BER may occur from before DNA replication to late times post-infection.
